(ii) Individual profiles of the New Zealand Veterans who travelled to Italy 2004An individual account of their memory and thoughts about Cassino accompanied with an ID photograph taken in 2004.

(iii) Previously unpublished war photographs of Monte Cassino and surrounds during 1944.“These wonderful images depict the soldiers’ life with civilians, during battle and barren scenery spotlighting bomb craters, ammunition indentifying tons of rubble. The images provide proof that life away from home was in fact - War.”

(vi) Matthew Wright-New Zealand historian has written a chapter on the Battle of Monte Cassino.An accurate account of the Battle of Monte Cassino written by Matthew Wright for this publication, which provides testament of the Kiwi’s involvement with civilians, the battle and bravery of all soldiers including the Germans and our own 28th Maori Battalion.

(v) Poems written by VeteransFeaturing several poems by Veterans, one written in 1944 by three men during the actual Battle of Monte Cassino and re-read by the only surviving soldier.

(vi) Personal storiesSome co-incidents and memorable happenings are written which detail the soldiers life during the Battle of Monte Cassino and their time in Italy.

(vii) German Veterans provide an account from their prospectiveA German Paratrooper Bob Frettlohr, writes his memories of the Battle of Cassino and his thoughts about Cassino now. Hans Fredrick Meyer tells how the next generations sees the Commemorations of the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.”

(viii) The New Zealand Burials in Cassino Commonweath Cemeterty, Cassino Listed is the Soldier’s rank, army number, family, age, date of death and from what town in New Zealand he came from.

“This book chronicles a trip of a lifetime, which emphasises the ages and war experiences of the soldier. It provides the assumption that such a trip is unlikely to be repeated by these veterans.”Maree Frewen-Wilks

(ix) Southland casualties buried in CassinoMembers of the Southland contingent found fellow Southland soldiers who became casualties during the Battle of Cassino. The ode was recited, a poppy placed and a Spirit of Southland Flag was placed on the headstone. Some of the graves visited are at the rear of the book.

(x) Return to Monte Cassino Exhibition was guest artist in Cassino for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino.The exhibition was displayed at the Cassino Military Museum and was donated to the people of Cassino by photographer, Maree Frewen-Wilks. Images of the opening appear towards the rear of the book as does images of Cassino Railway Commemorations and the Polish Commemorations.
